Start with the problem you want to solve
Mineral spots, chlorine taste, and drinking-water preferences are different needs. Identify the result you want before comparing systems. Test and service recommendations should fit the equipment and your supply rather than a one-size-fits-all sales pitch.
Why Las Vegas water leaves spots
The Southern Nevada Water Authority explains that calcium and magnesium contribute to local water hardness. Hardness itself is not a drinking-water health problem, but mineral residue can be noticeable around fixtures and glassware.
A softener and conditioner are different
Ion-exchange softeners remove hardness minerals. Salt-free conditioners do not remove those minerals in the same way and should not be described as equivalent softeners. Ask what the system actually changes, what maintenance it requires, and what result to expect.
Filtration addresses other goals
Whole-home filters and drinking-water reverse osmosis systems serve different purposes. Evaluate certified performance claims for the contaminants or tastes you want to address. Do not assume every filter treats every concern.
Compare ongoing care
Include filter replacements, salt where applicable, service access, drain requirements, and manufacturer maintenance in the decision. Ask for installation scope and warranty terms. SNWA’s home-treatment guidance is a useful independent starting point.
